Unredeemed

WHat is the term -- I believe descending from Calvinist theology -- that means unsaved or depraved or not among the elect, but that came to mean simply bad, immoral, resistant to correction?

Re: Unregenerate?
That's the one! I knew there was "r" and likely an "un" but "unredeemed was all I could get

Re: Preterite?
I've heard the word but never knew what it meant. I'd have guessed something positive -- a church official, maybe?

Rebrobate.
Tho' toad I am the object of man's hate.
Yet better am I than a reprobate.     who has the worst of prospects.

That would be the one still commonly used.

OED 1a: Rejected by God; spec. predestined by God to eternal damnation. Opposed to elect.

OED 2a. Of the mind, a mental process, etc.: depraved, debased, morally corrupt.

OED 2b. Of a person, his or her character, actions, etc.: lacking all religious or moral sense; wicked; unprincipled.

The quasi-secular/secular meanings were in use by the 1530s, in newly Protestant England.

Perdition? Or Reprobate?

Perdition can mean both hell and a state of unbelief or depravity. There is the first (or third) of the five points of Calvinism called "Total Depravity," but it can also be translated as "pervasive depravity" or "radical corruption"

Maybe Anathematized?

Was this the kind of discussion heard at the Second Vatican Council?

Oh and just to be clear, I have no idea if the post above was Crowley or Drummond, but I am just an amused fan who knows neither of them.

I'm sorry that folks lost some money though for most it wasn't THAT much. It's obvious Drummond has been dealing with declining mental health over the years, and as such I don't think it is a scam.…
